Build A Cube

Below is a beginners guide to build a cube...

You will need: 216 Spheres

Practice makes perfect, over time you will get to understand how the spheres interact & you will get more confident and become faster and faster!

Step 1:

Either starting from the pre-made cube or a ball of spheres, pull the spheres into a single line, the spheres will be quite easy to seperate as this will line the North & South poles.

Step 2:

Once you have a single sphere thick chain, lay it in a loose spiral of 6 rows as pictured below. Now count out the first 36 spheres, easiest to do by counting 6 groups of 6. Once you have identified 36 spheres, fold the chain back on itself so the you create 2 rows of 36 side by side. The spheres will be happy to jump side by side but be careful don't try to go too fast at first. Next you repeat the previous part of folding back at the end creating the 3rd row of 36 spheres.

Step 3:

Finsh the 3rd row and repeat the process of folding back the row at the end to create the 4th row of 36 spheres.

 Step 4:

By now you'll be getting used to the way the spheres are lined up when creating a cube, continue to fold back the rows at the end each time for the 5th and 6th rows eventually creating a rectangle of 36 x 6 spheres.

 Step 5:

Now the next part can be abit tricky initially, but keep trying and you'll get it. You need to fold the rectangle back on itself, count out 6 spheres from the 36 and then lift them up and over, you then need to count a further 6 and place the end down on the 12th row then press the loop flat as pictured below. It can go completely wrong here, but keep trying and once you get it you'll begin to find it easy.

 Step 6:

As before you now need to fold the 6 x 6 square back over onto the rectangle, the easiest way to do this is to turn the rectangle over, careful not to let the rectangle curl up, this way you can press it against a surface to help keep it lined up as picture below. Press it down slowly and let it line up and you will then have a stack of 3 rows of 6 x 6. Flip it over again and fold it back on itself to create the 4th row in the stack.

Step 7:

Flip it over once more to fold the 5th row under the stack and you will just have one row of 6 x 6 to fold back. The final row can be folded back in the same way as the previous ones or you can just do it in you hands using your fingers to keep it lined up correctly and then you should have your finished cube ready for you to take apart and build again, or why not try and create something new?

With practice, you really will get more of an understanding of how to handle the spheres and
become more successful each time and gradually faster!
