Build A Orb

Below is a beginners guide to build an orb...

You will need: 180 spheres

Practice makes perfect, over time you will get to understand how the spheres interact & you will get more confident and become faster and faster!

Step 1:

Either starting from the pre-made cube or a ball of spheres, pull the spheres into a single line, the spheres will be quite easy to seperate as this will line the North & South poles. Separate nine spheres from the chain and fold them back to create a ring as pictured. Then pressing on three sides push the ring into a triangle.

Step 2:

Once you have mastered creating the triangle, continue creating them with the remaining spheres. You should be able to create 20 triangles made up of 9 spheres each. The next stage is to combine the triangles. First it is best to learn how the triangles interact, depending which way the poles are facing will affect how the triangles will line up. When creating the orb, the aim is to have to spheres attach at point contact, this means the spheres line up edge to edge and not diagonally, if two triangles will not line up correctly turn one over which should solve this.

Step 3:

Once you have connected two triangles together to make a diamond shape and continue adding triangles so that shape begins to look like a pizza with one slice missing, once you have five together connect the first triangle and the fifth triangle to create a dome shape.

 Step 4:

With all the triangles pointing inward you should have five flat edges facing out, place a triangle onto each of these edges creating a 3D effect star shape.

 Step 5:

The next stage is to place triangles between each of the triangles you have just added to begin creating the sides of the orb. Do this by connecting a triangle to the side of one of the five pointing out, then fold it inwards with the triangle to the other side.

 Step 6:

This will begin to create a wall after you add a few triangles, continue on until you have a bowl or cup shape. You should again have the base of five triangles facing out, place your final five triangles onto each of the bases. After placing two triangles, fold them inwards so they connect to each other.

Step 7:

As you add each one you will see the orb beginning to close and look more complete. Remember that if the triangle does not attract immediately towards the area you are trying to place it on, try flipping it over. Be careful and take your time placing the last triangle in....

Well done! You have now completed the amazing NeoXorb.

With practice, you really will get more of an understanding of how to handle the spheres and become more successful each time and gradually faster!
