Is it ‘time’ to use some magnets?

When you delve into the world of magnets, it is truly fascinating what you can achieve.

Mr Andrews had a vision of a completely unique clock. He wanted to create a clock that was reminiscent of 17th century clockwork with an unusual twist... a floating turtle, who tells the time.

We receive calls regularly from people who are inspired to create new and wonderful pieces including clocks and sculptures.

Our technicians recommended our part F640 (5mm dia x 3mm thick N42 Neodymium Disc Magnets) which are small, discreet but powerful magnets that are enough to move the turtle piece around the clock.

Mr Andrews used two magnets for his project; one countersunk into the base (underside) of the turtle and one glued to the rotating hand in the clock. The two magnets are positioned so that they are in attraction; the turtle is therefore ‘pulled’ along by the opposite magnet.

Potentially; without the use of magnets, this application could have been ruined aesthetically as a mechanical structure would have been required. The use of small discreet magnets (F640) has made this application unique, visually pleasing and easy to assemble.

We must thank our customer, Mr Nick Andrews for his kind photographs and sharing his clockwork design with us at Magnet Expert Ltd.
