Alnico magnets are one of the most well-known types of magnet. These magnets are typically painted red and used widely in industrial and educational applications. Samarium Cobalt magnets are typically known as High Temperature magnets. These strong magnets can withstand operating temperatures that other magnets would simply degenerate under. This material is also very brittle by nature and can be prone to chipping and cracking.
Our ferrite magnets offer a deep depth of field as well as outstanding value for money. Ferrite magnets are typically not as powerful as neodymium magnets but are less brittle than samarium cobalt magnets. These magnets have a threaded hole in the back (shell) of the magnet. They also have a countersunk hole from the front magnetic face which is also part of the steel shell to ensure that the use of a screw can not damage the magnet.
Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets were one of the first types of “rare earth magnets” and have now been commercially available for almost 30 years. While many other types of rare earth permanent magnets have been discovered and made commercially available samarium cobalt is still the first choice magnet for adverse or high temperature environments.
