Here at Magnet Expert we\nare a team spurred on by helping our local communities. So when we heard about Newark\u2019s\nfirst ever Dragon Boat Race, we jumped at the chance to be involved. We\ngathered up some of our best, highly motivated individuals and formed a team\nPaddle Oar Else! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was hosted\nby Beaumond House Community Hospice and the Childrens Bereavement Centre. Here is some background about these two wonderful charities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeaumond\nHouse Community Hospice is a registered charity committed to providing\nsupportive palliative care to patients and their families living in Newark and\ndistrict, an area of approximately 15 miles radius. We have 4 in-patient beds\nfor people with palliative care needs, a day therapy as well as a Hospice at\nHome service providing compassionate support to the community.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\nChildren\u2019s Bereavement Centre is run by a committed team of friendly,\nsupportive and professional people who are qualified to help with the grieving\nprocess brought on by the death or terminal illness diagnosis of someone close.\nThe Centre is open to children aged 3 to 18 and offers a welcoming and safe\nenvironment for them and their families to receive the help and guidance they need.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through meeting their team,\nwe have learnt about their passion in supporting those going through the\nunthinkable and ensuring they make them situations better. This was the premise\nof why we had to be involved in the race. The charities managed to gather up a\nstaggering 27 local business in Newark to take part. The event was held on the 15th\nSeptember on the River Trent alongside Newark Castle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our team, Paddle Oar Else,\nhad a shaky start in the first race and nearly capsized in another, but managed\nto get an average time of 74 seconds. We unfortunately didn\u2019t make it to the semi-finals,\nbut the team are differently keen to come back fighting next year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finalists were Blueprint\nGaming, Derry Building Services and Staythorpe Power Station. The race was so\nclose, but the best team of the day did win, Blueprint Gaming. We would like to\ncongratulate them on their win!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were really taken back on the turnout of people who came to support the event. Our team had a fantastic day and raised some money for two amazing charities. CSR work is very important to us, and we are always looking for ways to give back to the local community and their charities. The Dragon Boat Race was a fantastic way to give back, and have some fun whilst doing it!
