The Ultimate Guide to Hanging and Displaying Artwork

Whether you're an artist, designer, gallery curator, or home décor enthusiast, displaying artwork the right way makes all the difference. A well-mounted piece looks professional and protects the integrity of your work. Traditional methods like pins, nails, or adhesives can leave unsightly marks or even damage delicate paper. That's where magnets come in - offering a clean, secure, and reusable alternative that suits everything from fine art prints to photography exhibitions.

Showcase your prints, designs, or photos beautifully, without damage. Say goodbye to pins and tacks. With magnets, your artwork stays pristine and securely in place.

Calculate Your Magnet Strength:

Just enter your artwork’s size and paper weight (gsm). The calculator will estimate the magnet strength required - factoring in surface area × weight × 8 (for shear force and thickness).

It’s that simple: the result is the minimum pull-strength goal for your magnets.

Choose The Right Fixing Method:

Once you’ve got your magnet strength, you just need to choose the right method for affixing your art. Here are four options, ranked by holding power:

COUNTERSUNK MAGNET AND DISC MAGNET

Our recommended method for large or particularly heavy pieces. Simply screw the desired number of countersunk magnets, with the advised pull strength into the wall and use disc magnets of the same diameter to clamp the artwork in place.

COUNTERSUNK STEEL DISC AND MAGNET

Best for medium-sized artwork, simply screw the correct number of countersunk steel discs into the wall – one in each corner works best – and use the recommended strength of the magnet as suggested by the calculator to clamp the paper in place.

MAGNET ON TO A STEEL SURFACE

If the surface you are putting your artwork on is made of steel then you are already halfway there! All you need is the right magnets suggested by the calculator above. You can browse all the suitable magnets in our shop using the links below.

 SCREW HEAD AND MAGNET

You can also use magnets to attract to a flat head screw. Make sure the screws are made from regular mild steel, not a non-magnetic material such as brass or stainless steel, and select magnets of the same diameter as the head of the screw. This method is not recommended for pieces that weigh more than 200 grams.
